SPY Optic sent me a pair of Sprinter sunglasses with Happy Lens technology to test. I wore them hiking, paddleboarding and exploring Colorado’s mountains.
The Sprinter had a close, sporty fit with blue mirrored lenses. My pair combined SPY’s Happy Bronze Polar lens with an ANSI-rated frame and lenses for added impact resistance.
UPDATE September 7, 2026: The Rebar ANSI with Happy Boost Polar with Ice Blue Mirror lens are the upgrade on the sunglasses I gear tested.
Testing SPY Happy Lens Sunglasses
The biggest difference I noticed immediately is reduced glare. I often squint while hiking in bright sunshine, even with sunglasses. With the polarized Happy Lens, I noticed less glare and better contrast. I could move between sunny slopes and shaded forest without straining my eyes.
SPY says its patented Happy Lens technology enhances color and contrast while allowing beneficial long-wave blue light to pass through. It blocks UV and short-wave blue light.

During a weekend stay at the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Colorado, I first tested them hiking for about 7 miles, with a lot of that in full sun.
I also decided to test them out hiking in and out of forest during a 6-mile roundtrip waterfall hike and paddle boarding at Piney River Ranch.
Are Spy Optic Happy Lens Worth the Price?
I was skeptical that sunglasses could deliver everything SPY Optic promised, especially with the $200+ price tag. After testing them across several outdoor adventures, I became a fan.
The Sprinter style I tested has since been discontinued, but the Rebar ANSI is the updated version. However, SPY still offers Happy Lens sunglasses and its newer Happy Boost technology, which is designed to further enhance color and contrast.
For hiking, paddling and long days in bright conditions, glare reduction remains the feature that matters most to me. Spy Optic’s Happy Lens made my eyes happier, and that’s not just clever marketing.
