Recently I got to trail test an outfit from Royal Robbins on an incredible hike in Yosemite National Park, the place where the brand started. Royal Robbins uses #BeyondtheMap hashtag on social media and this hike was certainly that. Our small group headed out with two guides from the Yosemite Conservancy. The exact connection of trails we did I couldn’t repeat since it’s not even on the map, but I can tell you it was seven fabulous miles on Mount Watkins. We hiked through the forest then out onto slick rock and had sunshine in the sunshine with one of the best views of Half Dome in Yosemite.
The outfit I hiked tested was three pieces:
Women’s Tech Travel Tank ($39) in beaujolais heather
Women’s Discovery III Short ($60) in tradewinds
Women’s Expedition 3/4 Sleeve Shirt ($70) in white

When I put the white shirt on, I squealed with delight. I had been looking for a wrinkle resistent white shirt for travel. Not only is this shirt perfect for hiking because it’s moisture wicking, has sun protection and thermoregulation technology, but it could be paired with a pair of black slacks or skirt then topped with jewelry and scarf or poncho and I’ve got a great travel outfit. It’s hard to find a white shirt, especially for travel, that you can’t see right through. The see-through factor is low on this white shirt. It even has a decreet side pocket so I can stash my ID and credit card. I’ve already worn it several times, including for a shoot for a television show for a cable network. When I washed the shirt, I couldn’t believe I didn’t have to steam or iron it. It’s fast drying with very little wrinkling. Think I’ve found the perfect travel shirt.

I’m not a huge shorts person. I prefer capris or pants, partly for the sun protection. But, these shorts rock. They’re lightweight, durable, and comfortable. They’re 7″ long so everything easily stays covered. You trek and climb with no worries of flashing anyone. I love that like the expedition shirt and tank, the shorts have a UPF of 50+. I did size up in the shorts so they fit more on the hips than right at waist. I wore these shorts in the Narrows in Zion National Park for a shoot for a television show and was shocked how fast they dry.

I love the color of the tech travel tank I got. It’s a great layering piece. I usually a small or medium in shirts. I got a medium in the tank and probably could have sized down in this one because it’s a little big in the neck and chest. I got the tech travel tee in a medium in two colors. I like the tank, but like the tee better.
I love the hiking clothes so much that I’ve already picked up some of their travel pieces like the Spotless Traveler Dress. Can’t wait to wear them on my September trip to Switzerland and Paris!
