So this Colorado gal headed west to check out the slopes in neighboring Utah. I’d never skied Utah and was really looking forward to taking some turns. Staying in Heber City with my friends Pam and Earl, we set out on a Tuesday to ski their favorite resort, Deer Valley.
We started from the Jordanelle Express Gondola and skied Little Baldy Peak, Bald Mountain, Bald Eagle Mountain, Flagstaff Mountain, and Empire then back. It was classic spring skiing conditions and since it was a Tuesday we had many runs to ourselves. It was sheer spring skiing bliss. Deer Valley only allows skiers, which was a first for me. As someone who still gets anxious getting off a chair lift if a boarder is next to me, I truly enjoyed a skiers only resort. On one run, we came up to several homes with bears and other critters climbing all over them. I loved the skier being chased up the tree and then another home with a totem pole. My favorite run of the day was the double blue run Jordanelle because of the incredible views of the Jordanelle Reservoir.

A few days later, our great friends Greg and Christy along with their two boys joined us for some fun on the slopes during their spring break. Those four have met me for multiple years in Colorado for spring break and it was time to try somewhere new. All of us but one skied Deer Valley on a glorious Saturday. 16-year-old Mason is a snowboarder and went to Park City Resort to shred the mountain. It was busy, but not overcrowded. I snapped some fun pics along the way.

I had been chomping at the bit to ski Park City. I’d heard so many wonderful things about the largest ski resort in North America. We were there as soon as the lifts opened since it was going to be a warm afternoon with temperatures climbing into the upper 40s on the mountain. I love skiing corduroy and was giddy gliding over some that morning. It’s the sound and vibration of skiing corduroy that I love. If you’re ever with me on the slopes and I hit some, you’ll likely hear me cheer with glee and laugh as I ski what I’ve heard described as “the King’s carpet.” It’s pure joy to me. I also really enjoyed the expansiveness of the runs at Park City. There were several times I got big chunks of runs all to myself.
Take some turns with me at Park City in this video.
