For a town of fewer than 1,600 people, Oakley, Utah knows how to put on a big show. Every Fourth of July week, the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo transforms this quiet mountain town in the Kamas Valley into one of the hottest tickets in the West. This year, I experienced both the July 3rd rodeo and the July 6 Xtreme Bulls. It’s easy to see why Oakley Rodeo tickets disappeared in just seven minutes after going on sale this year.

Hot Summer Nights, Hotter Rodeo Riders

This year is the 91st year of the Oakley Rodeo. This summer tradition is considered one of the premier Fourth of July rodeos in the country. A large prize purse attracts many of the top PRCA cowboys, bull riders, and WPRA cowgirls, creating championship-level competition in an intimate arena where every seat feels close to the action.  

The excitement doesn’t stop with the Oakley Rodoe competition with athletes like Stetson Wright, Riley Webb, Dalton Allred, and Trevor Reiste wowing the crowd. In between rides and events, entertaining rodeo personalities keep the crowd laughing. The Xtreme Bulls finale showcases some of the rankest bulls and toughest riders in the sport. This year Stetson Wright came out on top with a 90 point ride.

What stands out most isn’t just the caliber of rodeo athletes. It’s the patriotic atmosphere.

From the grand entry with riders carrying American flags to the crowd standing together during the national anthem, the Oakley Rodeo celebrates Independence Day with genuine patriotic pride. Set against the Wasatch Mountains, it feels like stepping into a classic slice of the American West.
