Set along the calm waters of northern Belize, Orchid Bay Resort feels like the Belize most travelers miss. No cruise crowds and no packed beach bars. Kissed with a sea breeze and surrounded by palms and jungle, it gives you space to breathe.
For a quiet northern Belize retreat, Casita 6B is just one of Orchid Bay’s charming thatched-roof casitas. I’ve stayed at Orchid Bay multiple times. It’s one of my favorite places to go when I need rest and relaxation.
Inside Casita 6B: Screened-In Porch, Loft & Full Kitchen Comfort
From the outside, Casita 6B has a classic Belizean look with a round design, warm stucco tones, and a thick thatched roof to keeps things cool. Stepping through the door, you immediately notice the beautiful vaulted wood ceilings giving the space height and character.
Inside, the layout is practical and comfortable with:
- A full kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, and island seating
- A washer and dryer (nice to have at the beach)
- A cozy living area with a futon couch for extra sleeping space
- A loft accessed by a wooden ladder for additional guests
- A spacious bedroom with rich wood furnishings and tiled floors that stay cool underfoot
I didn’t use the kitchen beyond making coffee. But having the kitchen is nice if you want to cook. For me, it’s more about the option than the obligation.
The bathroom features colorful tilework and a walk-in shower, blending local design with clean, simple functionality. Nothing flashy. It’s just comfortable and well thought out.
The screened-in porch is where I spend a lot of time. Two loungers, a small wooden table, and views of tropical landscaping make it ideal for morning coffee or an afternoon reset. It’s shaded, breezy, and bug-free.
If you prefer something more contemporary, the resort also has modern condos.
Tradewinds Restaurant: From Fry Jacks to My Favorite Ceviche
While Casita 6B has everything you need, I prefer to dine at Tradewinds, the on-site restaurant and bar at Orchid Bay.
Mornings start with fry jacks, which are pure golden, pillowy Belizean perfection. In the afternoon or evening, I rotate between the ceviche (my favorite anywhere), shrimp tacos, and black bean tacos. I love the fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and easy island pace in Tradewinds. Pair it with a drink and linger while chatting with other tourists and locals. No one rushes you here.
Relax on the Beach or Dock in Northern Belize
Orchid Bay makes it easy to slow down. The beach is quiet. The dock is perfect for watching the water shift from turquoise to deep blue. The bay is calm enough for an easy paddle. From moonset and sunrise to sunset it’s pure Belizean bliss.
You can truly do nothing here, and that’s part of the magic.
Add Some Adventure: Birding, Sunset Cruise, Maya Ruins, and More
If you’re feeling adventurous, Orchid Bay offers guided excursions that showcase the diversity of northern Belize.
This trip, I started with a guided sunrise birding tour. It happened to be the coldest morning in five years in Belize with temperatures dropping into the 50s. But, that actually worked in my favor. As the early light filtering through the mangroves, the symphany of birds crescendoed. It’s a peaceful way to see how alive this ecosystem is before most people are awake.
Mid-afternoon I joined the sunset cruise that included a stop at Cerros Maya Ruins. Cerros is the only Maya site in Belize facing the ocean. Standing atop an ancient structure you can’t help but wonder what life was like here.
From there, we cruised up the New River, where jungle, wildlife, and history blend together in that uniquely Belizean way. We even spotted a crocodile. On the way back to Orchid Bay, the sky ignited in shades of orange and red in a simply stunning sunset.
Why I Keep Returning to Orchid Bay
Casita 6B at Orchid Bay Resort strikes a balance I appreciate more each year: comfort without excess, adventure without pressure.
You can fill your days with tours to go snorkeling and exploring Maya ruins, or stretch out on a lounge chair by the pool or on the beach and let the gently salty breeze do the work.
Some trips are about checking off highlights. This one is about returning to a place that feels easy, familiar, and restorative.
