Hot Spots To Stay

Experience Timeless Elegance in the Premier Parlor Suite at Hotel Colorado

The historic Hotel Colorado offers a blend of Victorian charm and modern luxury in the heart of Glenwood Springs.  Located midway between Vail and Aspen, the quaint mountain town is known for its therapeutic hot springs.

A Mountain Town Steeped in Relaxation

For centuries, the Ute tribe revered the mineral-rich waters for their healing properties. Today, you can explore the rejuvenating waters of Iron Mountain Hot Springs and the around the globe soaking experience in their WorldSprings area or soak in the word’s largest mineral hot springs pool at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort.  The town’s geothermal wonders are complemented by its vibrant downtown, filled with boutique shops, charming restaurants, and a welcoming community. Whether you’re skiing the nearby slopes of Sunlight Mountain Resort, Aspen, Beaver Creek, or Vail, or simply unwinding in the soothing hot springs, Glenwood Springs is a special and historic mountain town.

History and Luxury at Hotel Colorado

A stay at Hotel Colorado, especially in the Premier Parlor Suite King, offers a unique blend of history, luxury, and mountain charm. Whether you’re drawn by the historic tales, the cozy elegance of the suite, or the allure of Glenwood Springs’ hot springs, your visit will be one to remember.

Step back in time to an era of opulence and grandeur with a stay in their Premier Parlor Suite King.  It was my pick for a 2-night stay on a solo getaway for creative inspiration.  It’s a quick jaunt to this small mountain town that’s turned into a late January tradition for me.

A Historic Landmark with Stories to Tell

Since opening in 1893, Hotel Colorado has been a beacon of luxury in the Rockies. Known as the “Grand Dame,” the hotel has hosted an array of famous guests, including President Theodore Roosevelt, who reportedly inspired the creation of the teddy bear during a stay here. Other notable visitors include President William Howard Taft and “Unsinkable” Molly Brown, who survived the Titanic disaster.

During World War II, Hotel Colorado served as the US Naval Convalescent Hospital.  Over 6,500 patients received care here between 1943 and 1946. Today, the property’s rich history is preserved in its ornate architecture, timeless furnishings, and curated displays of historical artifacts.

The Premier Parlor Suite King: Luxury and Comfort

With a spacious layout, this suite is the epitome of comfort and style from a bygone era. It has a plush king bed, a separate parlor area perfect for relaxing or entertaining, and elegant décor that pays homage to the hotel’s Victorian roots. Modern amenities blend seamlessly with classic details, including antique-style furnishings and luxurious linens. I particularly love the two fireplaces in bedroom and parlor.  They are non-functioning but are a nod to the hotel’s history and were discovered during a renovation.  In the oversized bathroom, a bench is a lovely accent piece.  The views from the two seating areas in the suite are delightful as the expansive windows frame stunning views of the surrounding mountains.  The view of the hotel’s lovely courtyard adds a touch of serenity to your stay.

A Culinary Delight in the Hotel Bar

After my afternoon drive from Denver, it was time to unwind with a cocktail and light dinner in the hotel’s historic bar, where the ambiance is as lively as the drinks are fabulous. I adore catching up with Ashley, the spirited bartender from South Africa, whose charm and expertise make the experience fun and unforgettable. My cocktail of choice is Molly’s Gimlet, a refreshing cocktail with a perfect balance of botanical and citrus flavors. It’s a nod to the “Unsinkable” Molly Brown.  Pair it with truffle parmesan crispy fries for a decadent treat as an appetizer.  After a few nibbles of fries, my side salad size of the Colorado winter salad topped with grilled salmon arrived just in time to keep me from eating the whole bowl of fries.  For a nightcap I ordered the cranberry hot toddy for a warm way to drift off to dreamland.

The Magic of January: Holiday Lights and Winter Warmth

One of the most enchanting aspects of visiting Hotel Colorado in January is the breathtaking holiday lights display. While many destinations pack away their holiday cheer after New Year’s, Hotel Colorado keeps the magic alive well into January. Over a million twinkling lights adorn the historic building and courtyard, creating a cozy and colorful winter wonderland. Late January is perfect for a winter escape to discover the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure in this iconic mountain town.
