You might expect Hyatt Place Peña Station/Denver Airport to feel like a cookie-cutter airport hotel. That notion disappears as soon as you walk into the lobby.
Maps, globes, vintage suitcases and oversized paper airplanes create a playful travel theme. Sleek furniture and contemporary artwork keep it from feeling gimmicky. During my one-night stay, a young golden retriever named Denver was serving as the hotel’s very popular four-legged ambassador.
A Spacious and Quiet Room
My room had a separate sitting area, workspace, mini refrigerator and blackout curtains. The extra space is useful for families, business travelers or anyone spending the night before an early flight.
Despite seeing trains and traffic from my window, I couldn’t hear either. I slept well in the comfortable bed and woke to distant views of snow-covered mountains.
The hotel currently offers king and two-queen rooms with sofa-sleepers, along with accessible rooms and one-bedroom suites.
Easy Access to Denver International Airport
The hotel’s biggest advantage is its location beside the 61st & Peña Station on RTD’s A Line. Denver International Airport is one stop away, typically about 10 minutes by train. Union Station in downtown Denver is roughly 30 minutes in the opposite direction.
Registered guests can also use the hotel’s complimentary scheduled airport shuttle. Confirm operating times and reserve your spot with the hotel, particularly for an early flight or late arrival.
On-site parking is available for a daily fee.
Food, Work and Fitness
The lobby has several comfortable places to work, read or enjoy a drink. I held an informal meeting in the business area before moving to the bar for parmesan-paprika fries, citrus-chile popcorn and a baby kale Caesar salad.
The current dining options include The Placery for appetizers, entrées and cocktails, plus The Market for grab-and-go items. Complimentary breakfast features hot and cold selections.
The hotel also has an indoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center and more than 3,000 square feet of meeting space. I squeezed in a morning workout before settling at a high-top table to work for a couple of hours.
My Final Take
Hyatt Place Peña Station/Denver Airport works well for an overnight stay before an early flight, an unexpected night caused by a cancellation or a business trip requiring easy access to both the airport and downtown.
The spacious rooms, quiet setting, complimentary breakfast and two airport transportation options make it much more than a place to simply sleep near DIA. It was one airport hotel that genuinely surprised me.
