Sleeping in a Hangar

Have you ever spent the night in a hangar?  I have!  But this one is not your typical hanger.  It’s the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg, Texas.  It’s a unique place to stay to explore this delightful German town.

If you’re a history buff, aviation lover, or just looking for a unique boutique hotel, this is the place in the Texas Hill Country.  The hotel is filled with airplane memorabilia, including real planes outside!

The exterior resembles a WWII airplane hangar, but the inside evokes the romance of the 1940s the minute you walk into the lobby.  One of the first things you’ll notice is the old switchboard, posters, and mail slots behind the front desk.   There are model planes, USO memorabilia, and aviation decor in a lobby filled with memories of a bygone era.

Enjoy a nightcap in the Officers’ Club.  Relax in one of the red leather chairs by the fireplace as you wind down for the night. In the morning, relax with a newspaper and coffee as the sunlight streams in.

The rooms are spacious and decorated in a 1940s theme, but with modern comforts.  The bathrooms feature black and white tile creating clean lines.  I particularly loved the patriotic themed toiletries.

There’s extra detail to service including a wonderful coffee bar stocked with fruit, cookies, and mints.  Perfect to get you going in the morning!

Here are a few of my suggestions of what to do in Fredericksburg:

Grab a glass of wine and relax out on the patio at Grape Creek Vineyards.  They have great nibbles too!

After you spend some time strolling along Main Street, have dinner at August E’s then stroll over to Lincoln Street Wine Bar.

Get out in nature!  If you’ve never hike Enchanted Rock – it’s a must.  Fredericksburg is the perfect place to base from to explore the beautiful of the Texas Hill Country.
