Thanks to @belize_reel_excursions I got to experie Thanks to @belize_reel_excursions I got to experience snorkeling spots most people never see in Belize.

At Mexico Rocks, it’s calm, colorful, and full of life with schools of blue tang and mangrove snappers, curious parrott fish and trunkfish, and a couple of stingrays and turtles cruising by like they own the place.

Then there’s Stingray City. It’s an adrenaline rush surrounded by massive stingrays, easily 4–6 feet wide, with nurse sharks gliding past that can reach 6-8 feet long. It’s humbling, thrilling, unforgettable…and a smidge terrifying. 😂

Both are just off Ambergris Caye @travelbelize
Two snorkels. Two worlds. Same day.

Which would you choose: colorful and calm, or full adrenaline? 👇

Enjoy a tour of Casita 6B @orchidbayresort with high ceilings, a screened porch, full kitchen, and enough space to actually settle in. My favs - morning light gently peeking in and late afternoons on the porch.

It’s the kind of place where you unpack fully and forget what day it is.

You come to Belize thinking about reefs and ruins. You come to Belize thinking about reefs and ruins.
You don’t expect a river to steal the show.

This is the New River, just before the sun goes down, on a sunset cruise from @orchidbayresort. Just navigating the river while the light softens surrounded by the wildness of fye mangroves.

It’s the kind of moment you don’t plan for, but will end up remembering long after the trip is over.

Sometimes the best part of travel is the boat ride you didn’t know you needed.

This morning had other plans.😂

Met guide @lyan.yan19 at 6am for sunrise birding @orchidbayresort on the coldest morning in years in Belize.
It was 56°F, which is shocking COLD in the tropics.🥶

Colder mornings = more movement

At sunrise birds are active, light is soft, and lagoons are quiet in a way you don’t see later in the day. No crowds. No rush. Just calls echoing through the mangroves as the sun climbs over northern Belize.🦜🐦‍⬛

This is the side of travel I love most. 🥰 Setting the alarm early, trusting a local guide, and seeing a destination before it wakes up.

Worth every chilly minute.👍🏻

Before speaking on national parks, sites, battlefi Before speaking on national parks, sites, battlefields, and monuments @traveladventureshow Saturday I checked off two more @nationalparkservice units.

I had been to Arlington Cemetery before but this was my first visit to @arlingtonhousenps. I took a self guided tour learning about the house built by George Washington’s grandson in early 1800s. George Washington Parke Custis’ daughter Mary married Robert E. Lee and they were living in house when the Union seized Arlington in 1861.

Next I took a guided tour of @frederickdouglassnps where 70% of the furnishings and artifacts are original to the Cedar Hill home. It was interesting to learn about Frederick Douglass’ private life beyond what I had learned about him in history books.

I love the smaller sites of National Park Service because you learn so much! Those stops were my 270th and 271st NPS units.

Couldn’t pass up the chance to visit another @nati Couldn’t pass up the chance to visit another @nationalparkservice unit @klondike_nps_seattle while in Seattle to speak tomorrow @traveladventureshow. I was in Whitehorse, Canada in Feb 2025 so it was interesting to me to connect the dots from Seattle to Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-1898 in Alaska and Yukon. To Whitehorse and this trip, I’m traveling solo. I’m speaking on solo adventure travel at 11:30aPT Jan 10th at Seattle T&A!

Also speaking in D.C. and NYC this month, Chicago in Feb, and LA in March. Come see me and use code SWEPTAWAY26 for discounted tickets on travel shows.com

Bummed I didn’t get to hit the slopes on this quick trip but my next work trip is tomorrow to speak @traveladventureshow in Seattle Saturday!⛷️✈️🎤
Wish I could teleport back to floating the Mossman Wish I could teleport back to floating the Mossman River with @backcountryblissadventures. The Mossman flows through the Daintree Rainforest, which is the oldest rainforest in the world. Every part of this day was magical. What a memory. Can’t travel for a month and not have some goof up Can’t travel for a month and not have some goof ups, delays, or cancellations. Wellington was first stop on the North Island.
Rode the cable up for views of the city, looked at the sun through a solar telescope and checked out the weather station in the Botanic Gardens during a lovely morning. Was supposed to fly to Rotorua in the afternoon (about 6 hours if you drove), but flight cancelled because of weather there. Instead had a great dinner at Shed 5.

The next day on way back to airport, flight cancelled because of weather in Wellington. Time for Plan B! Since the flights were taking off to Auckland, made the decision to save Rotorua for another trip. The flight was stunning to the last stop on this trip.
This was one of my favorite days of the whole trip This was one of my favorite days of the whole trip. It was a travel day from Christchurch to Wellington by train and ferry.

Spent the morning on @greatjourneysnz Coastal Pacific. My friend and I had the entire Scenic Plus car to ourselves! Around an amazing two-part breakfast, I watched the vine covered hills, dairy cows, and sheep. As we turned to ride along the Kaikōura Coast for about 100km, I saw dolphins and seals. We crossed New Zealand’s most active fault line (2106 7.8 magnitude earthquake) and on past Lake Grassmere (salt lakes). The train ride crossed through Malborough region famed for Sauvignon Blanc wines and other varieties before ending in Picton. The best part was chatting up the crew, a couple were also on the TranzAlpine train I did 2 days before.

After a quick break in Picton it was on to @interislander_nz leaving the South Island. Got lucky with a beautiful day to cross the Cook Strait and start the adventure on the North Island in Wellington.

Rode the Christchurch Gondola and saw sheep
Hiked down from gondola to Lyttelton
Back in Christchurch went to dinner @downstairs_chc
Sweet ending to day with a scoop of Mr. Mint Choc @rollickingelato

It was a glorious day as I arrived in my 63rd coun It was a glorious day as I arrived in my 63rd country of New Zealand. Queenstown is nestled along picturesque Lake Wakatipu. Walked into Queenstown oldest bar and @eichardts instantly became my favorite spot in town. It was fun watching the crowds gather for buskers. @fergburgerqueenstown has a long line all the time so opted for gelato instead. 😂😋

The next morning started the day in a sauna with a view at the new @watershedsaunas. Was supposed to do a helicopter ride to Milford Sound but Mother Nature said no go. Instead I enjoyed walking around town and a ride on TSS Earnslaw, the oldest commercial passenger-carrying steamship in the Southern Hemisphere. Afterwards, grabbed dinner with a view in one of the bay windows of the new @queenstownwharfbar.

Christmas Eve ended with the lively local crowd in @crewroomqt.

Loved time in Queenstown and look forward to going back!

I love an epic hike and this one was a real ripper I love an epic hike and this one was a real ripper! Had a glorious day for a 10.5 mile (just under 17km) hike in Mount Field National Park with @tas_wilderness_experiences. @3degreesft is the BEST guide!!!

Kicked off the adventure with a scenic drive and seeing a wallaby as we pulled into the Lake Dobson trailhead area to do the long Tarn Shelf Circuit.

We quickly gained elevation for a stunning view of Lake Seal then walked duck boards (Aussie for boardwalks) across stunning terrain to the Tarn Shelf dotted with small lakes. The symphony of frogs and birds was delightful. After hiking through what I called ghost trees (pencil pines that never recovered from 1967 fire) we stopped for an amazing picnic lunch at Newdegate Tarn where I also did a little cryotherapy on my feet. We continued on hiking through gorgeous terrain and at Twlight Tarn before descending back to Lake Dobson.

Saw 2 snakes🐍🐍(eek!), loads of skinks, some birds, and heard so many frogs. Last stop in Mt. Field was a quick and easy hike to see Russell Falls.

The incredible hike day was followed by an amazing dinner @peppinarestaurant @thetasmanhobart.

What a day @tasmaniaparks @tasmania @australia!🥾⛰️🥰
