I snuck in a fabulous fall road trip to visit my 53rd and 54th national parks before the first taste of winter arrived.

@mountrainiernps was my last national park in the contiguous U.S. and my 320th @nationalparkservice site.

I loved exploring its picturesque lakes, especially Reflection Lakes, before hiking Skyline Trail and High Skyline Trail on a glorious fall afternoon. Rainier itself is magnificent but add in the palette of autumnal hues across the landscape and it’s magical.

Just 113 sites to go including 9 national parks (7 in Alaska, US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa)! Hoping to complete my goal of all 433 in 2027. 😁

Took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather along the West Coast and earlier this week made a very last-minute trip to visit my 53rd and 54th national parks.

I had an absolutely glorious day in @ncascadesnps from wandering the shoreline of Diablo Lake to an afternoon hike to Rainy Lake and getting it to myself.

I also have a new favorite fall hobby called “larching.” The golden Alpine Larches are beautiful.

While staying @naturalselectiontravel Elephant Pan Camp, we traded a morning game drive for time in Khwai Village. It became one of my favorite mornings in Botswana.

We met some very enthusiastic little learners at the solar-powered Maria Ramsden Learning Center, supported by @naturalselection_foundation.

Then it was on to Mmogo Crafts to meet the women creating beautiful jewelry and intricately woven baskets, some taking weeks to make.

Our final stop took us inside a traditional mud hut to sit with a local healer.

The elephants, lions, and hippos may bring you to the Okavango. Experiences like this connect you to the people who call it home.

Forget the safari vehicle for an evening. We’re cruising through one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet as baboons, storks, hippos, elephants and crocodiles appear along the way.

Golden light. Wildlife everywhere. Water glowing beneath us. That enormous Okavango sky turning spectacular shades of sunset as we race across the Delta.

It was wild. It was stunning. It was pure safari magic.

A honey badger MOM and BABY?! 🤯

Honey badgers are notoriously elusive, so spotting one in the wild is a safari win. Seeing a momma and her baby together? At sunset?! This was next-level safari luck.

Watched this incredibly rare moment unfold near @naturalselectiontravel North Island Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

HYENA CUBS! 🐾

While staying @naturalselection Elephant Camp, we headed out with rangers and a hyena researcher with @naturalselection_foundation and got an incredibly rare peek at these little ones.

One is estimated to be two months, one is three months, and two likely four months. We saw 4 spotted hyena cubs!

I’ve been on safaris in seven countries and this was a first for me.

And yes, hyena pups are ridiculously cute.

Talk about a welcoming committee. Within minutes of arriving at this @naturalselection lodge in Botswana’s Khwai Private Reserve, this was the scene by the pool.

I’ve chased aspens across @visitcolorado for years, and @gobreck tops my list for leaf peeping. These are some of my favorite spots: Boreas Pass, Aspen Alley and Hiker’s Gold in French Gulch.

The gold is gorgeous, but leaves are already dropping. This show doesn’t last long.

Visited 14 @nationalparkservice sites in and near Boston the past 4 days. One of my favorites is @capecodnps where I pretty much had Nauset Beach to myself. I’ve now been to 318 of the 433 sites - 115 to go!

One night at Keystone’s newest luxury escape. ✨ From a golden-hour gondola ride and an incredible omakase dinner at Kinji to watching a lunar eclipse from my balcony, @kindred.resort packed plenty of mountain magic into 24 hours. Add in a sunrise walk, breakfast at Lula’s, and pool time with a view, and I’m already ready to return to @keystoneresort.

Where American landscape art took shape in Catskill.

Home of President No. 8 and first President born in U.S. in Kinderhook.

What if the thing that “ruined” your day, was actually the gift?

That’s exactly what happened to me. Grief doesn’t disappear. It changes.

This year, missed timing, road delays, and unexpected pivots led me to a place I hadn’t planned to linger. That’s where I found the joy.

Standing at Devils Postpile, I didn’t just see columns of lava. I saw organ pipes, and thought of my mom playing the piano. ❤️🎹🎶

Healing isn’t about perfect days. It’s about finding joy in the hiccups.

Stops included: Tunnel Rock, Hospital Rock Pictographs, climbed Moro Rock, General Sherman Tree (large by volume tree on earth), and hiked Congress Trail

16 years ago, I lost my dad on July 29, 2010. Today I’m choosing to celebrate him.

Travel and the outdoors became part of my healing journey, reminding me to keep moving forward and embrace every moment, especially after losing my mom 7 years ago tomorrow on July 30, 2019.

Today, I’m celebrating my dad in Sequoia National Park, my 51st national park. He loved road trips, history, and seeing as much of America as he could.

Grief is a never ending journey, and celebration is part of it. We grieve because we loved.

Hiked from base to summit on Mt. Crested Butte wit

Hiked from base to summit on Mt. Crested Butte with @living_journeys, a non-profit helping those with cancer and their families in Gunnison County. Loved every step (and scramble) of this hike yesterday.

I hiked in memory of my mom, other family members, and a dear friend’s spouse who recently lost his battle. I also hiked in honor of friends fighting and surviving.

Last time I stood on this summit was 13 years ago. The route I took - base to summit back to Silver Queen Lift - was about 6.5 miles with elevation gain over 2,800’. It was a great event!
