Day 2 in @visitbawu started in @schwetzingen_erleb

Day 2 in @visitbawu started in @schwetzingen_erleben_ with lunch at Brauhaus zum Ritter. It’s asparagus season here so paired asparagus soup with a pretzel and radler (beer and lemonade). Then we toured the gardens @schloss_schwetzingen. They are stunning! We went to a small asparagus family farm then headed to @stuttgarttourismus for 2 nights @parkinnstuttgart where I have a room with a view.

The morning of Day 2 in @visitbawu started in @heidelberg4you with a walk up the steep Philosopher’s Way. The views were worth the effort and even saw some sheep. We took a scenic ride on the Neckar River with @riverboat_heidelberg. It was wonderful! We finished our time in Heidelberg wandering the streets of Old Town before heading to our next destination.

Fell in love with @heidelberg4you in my first day in @visitbawu region of Germany. It’s a quaint romantic town filled with history including a university founded in 1386. I toured Old Town then went up to @schlossheidelberg followed by a dinner of Käsespätzle, a local specialty, @wirtshaus_zum_nepomuk.

I checked off my 37th national park and 170th @nationalparkservice site with visit to @drytortugasnps. It’s 70 miles offshore of Key West and the last of @thefloridakeys. You can only get there by seaplane, ferry, or boat. You can explore Fort Jefferson and snorkel during your visit. It’s one of the hardest national parks to get to!

Yesterday I explored @biscaynenps with @biscaynenationalparkinstitute. Biscayne NP is 95% water. We went to Elliott Key where we went snorkeling, paddling, and had a small beach to ourselves. We sailed back and saw iridescent clouds. It was a magical day!

My 167th @nationalparkservice site was @bigcypress

My 167th @nationalparkservice site was @bigcypressnps. It quickly became one of my favorites as I hiked with the outreach and education coordinator into a cypress strand and to a gator hole. It was so cool to see it during the dry season and to see the 5 different habitats so close together. I also saw a lot of alligators in 2 canals. It’s a gem along the @paradisecoast and I can’t wait to return to see it in the wet season.

Exploring @paradisecoast for a night and loving its rustic beachy vibe. Watched sunset on Chokoloskee Island where I watched a pelican for bit before heading to Everglades City to ear shrimp and grits for dinner at super cute @camelliastreetgrill before retreating to my cozy, but large room at Ivey House Inn. If you’re heading to Everglades and/or Big Cypress spend at least a night on Florida’s Paradise Coast.

Sunday’s adventures with @discoverni and @touris

Sunday’s adventures with @discoverni and @tourismireland went from Old World traveling to New World, lunch on a lake, a place of fortune and famine, and a sleeping in a castle. We went to @ulsteramericanfolkpark, which admittedly I thought would be a little hokey but it’s really well done and fascinating as you walked by and through 41 original buildings from a one-room cabin to Irish town to a ”coffin ship” book to the New World of America. We dined on a light and delicious lunch while cruising Lough Erne with @ernewatertaxi in an electric pontoon boat. Next we headed into Ireland’s Hidden Heartland and went to @strokestownpark where we toured a grand house of the ruling elite followed by a deep diving into what caused the Great Irish Famine and mass exodus from Ireland to America of those in search of a better life. For the night we stayed @kilronancastle and I slept in a castle. This morning I took an early morning walk before departing to start of my conference.

Saturday was a wonderful day from Bushmills to Der

Saturday was a wonderful day from Bushmills to Derry in @discoverni. I woke up @bushmillsinn and set off on a long walk with great views of Runkerry Beach and Giants Causeway. It started raining as we got to Dunluce Castle which made it even more mystical. I walked on an Irish beach for the first time at Downhill Beach with Mussenden Temple high on the cliff. We made it to Derry and had tea at the Everglades Hotel where we stayed for the night. We went on a tour with @citytoursderry starting at the Derry Girls mural (yes I’ve started watching the show) and walked the wall encircling the city. Afterwards three of us went to a very lively pub then walked into the bogside of Derry to see the Peace Mural and Bloody Sunday Monument. We walked across the Peace Bridge at sunset and had a nice dinner @walledcitybrewery and I had an amazing gin and tonic with their Earhart gin named after aviator Amelia Earhart. @tourismireland

Friday we drove from Belfast to Giants Causeway on the Causeway Coastal Route. The sea road goes through quaint towns and is filled with phenomenal views. We had a special tea at Glenarm Castle then walked the grounds to see the sheep and walled garden. My return to Giants Causeway was very emotional for me as last time I was there was day after my father passed and would be one of the last times I would get a day with my brother. There were multiple ironic occurrences including our ranger guide was named Jimbo. My father would jokingly called my brother Jimmy that nickname when he was giving him a hard time. As we walked down to the hexagonal columns I noticed a cloud that looked like a heart. Pretty sure that was my mom sending me love from Heaven. We spent the night at Bushmills Inn which was wonderful. Very grateful to get this special return Giants Causeway on a trip with @discoverni and @tourismireland.

One night in @visitbelfast @discoverni wasn’t enough. We started with fish and chips for lunch in Drawing Room II of @titanichotelbelfast where the Titanic and other ships were designed. We spent a couple of hours in @titanicbelfast, an immersive museum taking you through the creation to demise of the Titanic. We got a sneak peek @titanicdistillers new tasting room in historic Thompson Pumphouse next to the dry dock were Titanic and other ships were worked on. We checked into @grandcentralbelfast with an observation deck on 23rd floor perfect for bubbles. We walked around the city and explored the Cathedral Quarter where we enjoyed some local sips at Duke of York pub. The next morning we drove through the conflict area of Belfast and saw the Falls and Shankill Roads Peace Wall. They recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Peace Agreement. Hope I get to visit again some day.

Some places are special and personally heartbreaki

Some places are special and personally heartbreaking at the same time. @visitdublin is that for me. It’s an amazing city and serendipitous events let me know it was time to return. While I was here with my brother 13 years ago my dad passed away in the states. My brother is now also gone but he loved living in Northern Ireland. I’m glad I gave myself an emotional buffer day before a conference to wander Temple Bar district, reflect in @stpatrickscathedraldublin, eat fish and chips at Quays, and sip a cocktail with @jamesonwhiskey and @guinness in it @thecuriousmister. Sláinte to making new memories in @tourismireland.

This was one of the best sunset experiences I’ve had. We got to @villacaletas.oficial about 4:30p and snagged a table with a front row view. There’s also an amphitheater where you can sit and order drinks for the sunset show.
