Got in on some fall Southern style with a visit in @santeecoopercountry. Took a boat ride with @whiteoutlaw into the swamps of Lake Marion then did a little porch sittin’ while staying a night at historic @clarksinnsantee.

Next morning, we did the scenic drive in the Cuddo Unit of Santee National Wildlife Refuge. Spent the afternoon kayaking in Poplar Creek before a night in a cabin at Santee State Park.

Of course we got some great Southern cooking and seafood. The Lake House was my favorite!

Always a treat to return to my home state of South Carolina!

This is what you look like after hiking about 35 miles with 5000 ft descent and 5000 ft ascent both ways on Choquequirao trek.

Sweaty, tired, and happy to say I did one of the most challenging treks in Peru! Even managed to do a yoga dancer pose at the end.

It was my second trek with @trekwithalpaca. I got a great surprise the night before the trek when I found out our chef was @marlenihuillca40. She was on the first-ever all-female trek on the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu two years ago.

Cheers to my fellow trekkers! What a fun group…and we did it!
More to come. 🥾⛰️

I made it to Choquequirao, estimated to be 3 times larger than Machu Picchu. The trek is hard going from about 10,000 feet in elevation down to Apurímac River then climbing up about 5,000 feet to the “Cradle of Gold.” The remote archaeological site is the sister city of Machu Picchu.

We had fog and rain when we arrived then the sky cleared for a beautiful afternoon. I did the trek with @trekwithalpaca - my second trek with them. We even had a phenomenal picnic in the ruins.

My favorite moment was when I was alone at the Hanan (a high point in the site) and an Andean condor soared by. Had to think it was my dad saying hi as I visited on what would have been his 90th birthday and he loved ancient societies (I do too!).

This was one of the hardest treks/hikes I’ve ever done, but totally worth it!

Yesterday I hiked up to 5038 meters (16,522 feet) to admire the beauty of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain in Peru. The colorful mountains are striking, but Chillihuani Valley that we hiked through is equally beautiful - no one talks about that!

Did it with @trekwithalpaca and now off on a 5-day trek to Choquequirao, which is estimated to be 3 times larger than Machu Picchu. More to come!

I snuck in a fabulous fall road trip to visit my 53rd and 54th national parks before the first taste of winter arrived.

@mountrainiernps was my last national park in the contiguous U.S. and my 320th @nationalparkservice site.

I loved exploring its picturesque lakes, especially Reflection Lakes, before hiking Skyline Trail and High Skyline Trail on a glorious fall afternoon. Rainier itself is magnificent but add in the palette of autumnal hues across the landscape and it’s magical.

Just 113 sites to go including 9 national parks (7 in Alaska, US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa)! Hoping to complete my goal of all 433 in 2027. 😁

Took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather along the West Coast and earlier this week made a very last-minute trip to visit my 53rd and 54th national parks.

I had an absolutely glorious day in @ncascadesnps from wandering the shoreline of Diablo Lake to an afternoon hike to Rainy Lake and getting it to myself.

I also have a new favorite fall hobby called “larching.” The golden Alpine Larches are beautiful.

There’s more to the Okavango Delta than incredible wildlife.

While staying @naturalselectiontravel Elephant Pan Camp, we traded a morning game drive for time in Khwai Village. It became one of my favorite mornings in Botswana.

We met some very enthusiastic little learners at the solar-powered Maria Ramsden Learning Center, supported by @naturalselection_foundation.

Then it was on to Mmogo Crafts to meet the women creating beautiful jewelry and intricately woven baskets, some taking weeks to make.

Our final stop took us inside a traditional mud hut to sit with a local healer.

The elephants, lions, and hippos may bring you to the Okavango. Experiences like this connect you to the people who call it home.

If you stay at Natural Selection’s Elephant Pan Camp, make time to go beyond the game drive and spend a morning in Khwai Village. 🇧🇼

THIS is a sundowner in the Okavango Delta. 🤯🌅

Forget the safari vehicle for an evening. We’re cruising through one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet as baboons, storks, hippos, elephants and crocodiles appear along the way.

Golden light. Wildlife everywhere. Water glowing beneath us. That enormous Okavango sky turning spectacular shades of sunset as we race across the Delta.

It was wild. It was stunning. It was pure safari magic.

Want to experience an Okavango safari like this? Stay @naturalselectiontravel North Island Camp and do not miss the sunset cruise.

Botswana, you are something else. 🌅🐘🦛🐊

A honey badger MOM and BABY?! 🤯

Honey badgers are notoriously elusive, so spotting one in the wild is a safari win. Seeing a momma and her baby together? At sunset?! This was next-level safari luck.

Watched this incredibly rare moment unfold near @naturalselectiontravel North Island Camp in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

Just when I thought this safari couldn’t possibly top itself…wow!

HYENA CUBS! 🐾

While staying @naturalselection Elephant Camp, we headed out with rangers and a hyena researcher with @naturalselection_foundation and got an incredibly rare peek at these little ones.

One is estimated to be two months, one is three months, and two likely four months. We saw 4 spotted hyena cubs!

I’ve been on safaris in seven countries and this was a first for me.

And yes, hyena pups are ridiculously cute.

Arrived at Elephant Pan just in time for happy hour, or as they say here - sundowner. So did the elephants. 🐘🐘🐘

Talk about a welcoming committee. Within minutes of arriving at this @naturalselection lodge in Botswana’s Khwai Private Reserve, this was the scene by the pool.

Best happy hour crowd I’ve ever joined. Ellies drink first! 🐘🍹

GO NOW if Breckenridge fall color is on your list. 🍂

I’ve chased aspens across @visitcolorado for years, and @gobreck tops my list for leaf peeping. These are some of my favorite spots: Boreas Pass, Aspen Alley and Hiker’s Gold in French Gulch.

The gold is gorgeous, but leaves are already dropping. This show doesn’t last long.

Save this and go chase some gold.

The gold is gorgeous right now in @gobreck, but don’t put this leaf-peeping road trip off. Color came early this year, and with leaves already dropping fast, this show is a short one.

I chased the gold along Boreas Pass, hikingAspen Alley Trail and in French Gulch, and soaked in the killer view @lodgeatbreck

@gobreck understood the assignment with a 55°F afternoon. What a view from @lodgeatbreck.

Fall colors are already fading fast in Colorado. With the drought, aspens are going from green to brown, not as vivid, and leaves are dropping fast. 😢🍂

Visited 14 @nationalparkservice sites in and near Boston the past 4 days. One of my favorites is @capecodnps where I pretty much had Nauset Beach to myself. I’ve now been to 318 of the 433 sites - 115 to go!

One night at Keystone’s newest luxury escape. ✨ From a golden-hour gondola ride and an incredible omakase dinner at Kinji to watching a lunar eclipse from my balcony, @kindred.resort packed plenty of mountain magic into 24 hours. Add in a sunrise walk, breakfast at Lula’s, and pool time with a view, and I’m already ready to return to @keystoneresort.
