If you’re heading to downtown Detroit, the historic Westin Book Cadillac Detroit is a perfect blend of modern luxury and Motor City history. I stayed in corner room 1510 during a recent conference, and this spacious room with skyline views felt like a calm retreat in the middle of the city.

Room 1510 in Westin Book Cadillac Detroit
A Storied Landmark
The hotel’s history is just as impressive as its modern upgrades. The original Book Cadillac Hotel opened in 1924. It was built by the Book brothers and named for French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, founder of Detroit. For decades, it was the tallest building in the city. It was one of the most glamorous hotels in the Midwest, hosting presidents, Hollywood stars, and athletes. After closing in the 1980s, the building sat vacant. It reopened in 2008 after a $200 million restoration transformed it into the Westin Book Cadillac. Staying here feels like being part of Detroit’s revival story.
The Room: Spacious and Stylish
My corner king room was airy with plenty of natural light pouring in through the wide windows. Neutral tones, soft lighting, and cozy seating areas made it feel more like an upscale apartment than a standard hotel room. I loved the layout with a desk for work, a lounge chair for reading, and a comfy bench at the end of the plush bed.
The bathroom was equally impressive. It’s oversized with a tub, separate shower, and a long vanity.

Executive Lounge Access
As a Marriott Bonvoy elite, I had access to the executive lounge on the top floor. It’s always a perk to grab a quick breakfast, a coffee before meetings, or snacks without leaving the hotel. The lounge also offers panoramic city views, a great way to see Detroit’s mix of historic and modern architecture.

Prime Downtown Location
One of the best things about the Westin Book Cadillac is its central location. It’s walking distance to downtown attractions, restaurants, and stadiums. From the hotel, I walked:
Just a few blocks to the Detroit Riverwalk, one of the city’s gems and a perfect spot for a late afternoon walk after a day in conference rooms. Plus you can wave to Canada across the river.
The Eastern Market is about 1.5 miles away. The weather was so nice I walked to and from it, enjoying some of Detroit’s architecture along the way.

Drive Over to The Henry Ford
If you have the time, make the 20–25 minute drive out to The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. It’s one of the best museums I’ve ever visited. From presidential limousines to Thomas Edison’s lab, the exhibits showcase American history, innovation, and culture in a way that’s both fascinating and inspiring.

The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit offers everything you want in a downtown stay: spacious rooms, excellent amenities, and a convenient location inside a beautifully restored historic landmark. Whether you’re here for a conference, a game, or just exploring the city’s museums and markets, this hotel makes a wonderful home base.
